Great productivity tools

Hello,

Today I would like to present you some productivity tools that can make your life much easier. I have done a lot of research on software and webapps to suit this purpose but there is no one that could satisfy me completely. While searching for good apps I was looking for:

  1. good design
  2. good useability
  3. possibility to expand software with plugins
  4. price, ideally I would like to have them for free :)

I have started with Microsoft Outlook about 5 years ago, it has a great calendar, email client and vry nice interface. However now it became exremely heavy to load and t lacks portability. I also have used Todoist.com but after I have payed for the montly subscription and haven’t seen any offered features or any response from support team I have abandoned it as well. I have used some tome webapps and PC software but still with no good result.

So that’s where I have stopped:

Postbox

Postbox is a recently launched project, its client is available both for mac and pc. It is extremely useful if you have various email accounts and spend a lot of time to check for new email there online.

Pros:

  1. Integration with Gmail, Hotmal, MSN, POP and IMAP servers
  2. Great great design
  3. Cross OS
  4. Tiny intrgration with Facebook
  5. Mozilla based core
  6. Ability to use plugins (they have promised it in the newxt releases)
  7. Zero price (at least now, while it is in beta version still)

Cons:

  1. Postbox takes ts time to load
  2. It lacks good spam filters
  3. It lacks calendar although it has a rudimentary todo lists

Google Calnedar

googlecalendar

Google calendar is a great webapp, it uses heavily Ajax so you can perform the most important tasks smoothly without annoying page reloads. Google Calendar is constantly updated and empovered with new features, so most recent one is its todo list, works great for a first release althout some improvement should be done there.

Pros:

  1. Completelyportable (it is a webapp)
  2. Great design
  3. Todo lists
  4. Intergration with a lot of services (weather forecast, remember the milk, facebook, horoscopes etc)
  5. Availability for Iphone and another smart phones.

Cons:

  1. It needs a better todo lists

With these two you will become more producstive, just take a look and decide if they suit your needs.

In the next post I will present you 2 more productivity tools I heavily use.

Yours Mike
